Kurt Angle Invitational: Kurt Angle Vs. Roderick Strong WWE SmackDown - January 13th, 2005
This almost feels surreal. Kurt Angle facing off against one of ROH’s toughest and most versatile athletes, Roderick Strong. In late 2004, Angle began challenging superstars to go for 3 minutes with him in the ring. The winner of what he called the Kurt Angle Invitaitonal would get his 1996 Olympic Gold Medal. When the WWE hit Tampa, Florida, 22-year old future ROH World Champion Roderick Strong would answer the call, and ignite Kurt from the get-go.
This is why I love shitloads of wrestling - I’ve never seen this one. Reminds me of one of the many squash matches I’d see on Prime Time and all the syndicated WWF television shows back in the day. (Speaking of which, are we going to be given access to ’80s WWF television on the WWE Network??!)
Jake the Snake Roberts has been announced as the 2nd inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2014!! Jake Roberts deserves his spot in the hall. Should be very interesting to see if the Ultimate Warrior will be mature about the whole thing or if he’ll go on one of his ignorant tirades that have become his trademark. I still don’t understand why the Warrior has a spokesperson defending him against Jake on Twitter. Jake apologized. What more does the Warrior want?
I’m more happy for the Snake than I initially was for the Warrior simply because he’s shown more grace and humility than Jimbo the Warrior has.
I’m okay with the New Age Outlaws holding the tag titles briefly but for purely nostalgic reasons. The tag division has been so hot for months now. I hope the Usos keep it going and take the tag straps off the NAO and go to Wrestlemania defending.
