At the start of this speech I thought it was a work and up until Mark started actually shedding tears and told his little girl he was coming home I thought it was just that: a work. After the tears came on I thought I was witnessing the retirement of Mark Henry in person since I was attending this show live.
Moments after this epic speech John held Mark’s hand high in the air with the WWE Title to see him off only to recieve the World’s Strongest Slam, and boy was the crowd hot! I’ve never heard so much heat in person. They had invested all of their emotions in to what this sobbing grown man clad in a pink jacket was saying to them and believed it to be truth only to be stabbed in the back.
In an age where it’s hard to be legit surprised by an angle in pro wrestling there’s nothing better than when the wool is pulled over your eyes and you are swerved, if only for a few brief moments. To me that IS pro wrestling. I thought this was a work and Mark Henry’s acting skills tricked me in to believing he was saying goodbye to the WWE Universe for good. Henry has come a helluvalong way in the years he has been in the E.
I regret that nothing really came out of the program that this speech started between Henry and Cena. Henry was just to be another worker fed to Cena until his match with Daniel Bryan at Summerslam. I don’t know what the WWE is thinking everytime they build Henry up to be this HUGE monster only to have him beaten and forgotten about the following PPV.
I would have much rather seen Henry win the title from Cena at MITB and go on to lose it to Daniel Bryan in a double main event at Summerslam alongside the Punk-Lesnar match and still have the Cena-Daniel Bryan match take place later in the year to unify the World Titles at one of the big 4 pay-per-views, but that’s just me. It wasn’t best for business I suppose. Harhar ;)
I’ll be posting my 2013 WWE Rewind over the next 4 or 5 days which will include hits and misses I feel the WWE made over the last year, as well as my picks for the top matches and superstars of the year and predicitions for 2014. Happy New Year to my readers. :)
To be fair I will say that I enjoyed tonight’s main event on Raw and thought it was a great match with a good chicken shit heel move by Orton with a low blow on Daniel Bryan to end the match. I found myself hoping that Daniel Bryan would end up having conflict with John Cena after Cena made the save with the Wyatt family somehow becoming involved.
Survivor Series ‘13 ended with a dick swinging contest when WWE Champion Randy Orton and World Heavyweight Champ John Cena took turns holding up their title belts while lovingly looking each other in the eyes. I’m surprised they didn’t share a passionate embrace.
All signs are starting to point to the recent rumors of a unification bout becoming reality perhaps as soon as TLC. Personally I’m fine with a World Title unification but only if it takes place at Wrestlemania. I guess it doesn’t matter.
I can’t believe how fast the WWE has went down hill since Summerslam. The Summerslam PPV was probably the best PPV of the year. Sure, Orton cashed in and ended Daniel Bryan’s short reign and as much as I hated that I could have dealt with it if Daniel Bryan would have gotten retribution on Orton at the next PPV. Instead they killed any momentum Bryan had and hijacked his YES! gimmick and gave it to the Big Show. What good that did Show, huh?
And from the sounds of it the rest of the pay per view sucked balls too. Just terrible. I’m of the belief that Vince is personally sabatoging the Survivor Series card every year now so he can get rid of it for good.
